Yes. The information in this course is specific to the United States. 

This program is for anyone in the United States who wants to start their own design or decorating business (the material covered in the course applies to both). 

Most members are complete beginners with no degree that have never worked with a client before. Others have a design business but need help refining their process. Some have a degree or are in design school but don’t know where to start. My program has been beneficial to them all.

Even if you went the route of getting a design degree or have worked with clients before, this course will still be beneficial. It will teach you how to set up your business, how to work with a client from start to final install, and how to order product (including retail + wholesale) – none of which I was taught in design school.

BOTH! You’ll learn the business side of design including how to legally set up your business, how to determine your design services, your pricing, and how to get new clients. We will walk through all the steps to take a client through from first phone call to final install. Last, we’ll cover how to get designer discounts and mark up product.

You’ll also learn important design techniques such as how to create digital design boards and layouts, the formulas to style and accessorize like a pro, and how to always choose the right wall decor, lighting, drapery, paint colors, etc. I also cover how to correctly order custom items and work on remodels/new builds.

Always check your state and country’s rules and regulations around using the title “Interior Designer” but according to the legislative department at IIDA and the CIDQ, there are no regulations on who can call themselves an Interior Designer in the United States as long as you’re not calling yourself a “certified,” “registered,” or “licensed” designer. I also advice you to stay away from acting as contractor or taking on commercial projects unless you are certified to do so.

If your area doesn’t allow you to call yourself an interior designer, you could look into calling yourself an interior decorator or home stylist instead. The full course will still apply to you regardless of your title.

Remember this is a self-study program so you go at your own pace! Each lesson includes 2-4 hours worth of training videos to watch along with corresponding guides to download. You will also have a checklist of activities to complete before you move on to the next lesson’s curriculum. 

On average, course members spend about 2-4 hours per lesson applying the material and are able to launch their business in the first 3 weeks.

Without registration, licensure, a permit, and/or certification, you should not act as contractor on construction projects (new builds, remodels).

You can still work on these projects from an aesthetic perspective. This means someone else is the contractor on the job but you can help make selections (paint, tile, counters, floors, etc). 

You should also not design commercial and public spaces unless licensed to do so.

You will also have access to the course for 2 years after purchasing so you can go back and review content if needed. You will have lifetime access to the Facebook group so you can continue getting support as your business grows.

No, the only legal certification you can receive in the United States is through the NCIDQ exam (or IDEX in California). This requires a degree and 2 years working under a certified designer before you’re able to sit for the 2 day exam.

In my opinion, certification is only needed if you plan on working on commercial projects (public spaces) or acting as contractor. Even then, I would recommend a contractor’s license as it’s easier to obtain and has higher authority in most states.

Be wary of any program that claims a “certification” upon completion as it’s not legal in the U.S.

No one can guarantee your success except you. For this reason, the course has no guarantees and all sales are final.

As you’re going through the course, you may have questions that come up along the way.

Our private Facebook group allows you to get your questions answered from me and the other designers in the program. I’m in the group weekly to answer questions.  

The group also allows you to connect with other new designers in the program or get a 2nd opinion (ex. your business name or website, your first design board, a design dilemma, etc).

If you complete the course and feel like you still need help, we can discuss my 1-on-1 coaching packages. So far, no one who has completed the course has needed this option.
